STATE & FEDERAL PROGRAMS
The State and Federal aaaaPrograms are designed to provide supplemental instruction to students in the cognitive areas of reading, writing and mathematics as well as the noncognitive areas of the affective and social/health domains. Selection of students for the City of Burlinton Title I After - School Tutorial Program is based on results of the California Achievement Test in the areas of reading, writing, and math and/or Teacher/ Counselor recommendation.
The supportive reading ,writing , and math teachers , who work very closely with the regular classroom teacher to insure continuity of instruction, provide each student with intense remediation these areas. Instruction time does not take children away from their regular class instruction but is supplemental to this. In-class support is also provided by Teacher Assistants and the program is monitored on regular basis. Parents play a major part in helping children improve in these important areas by becoming part of the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC).
Funding for the After-School Tutorial Program is provided by Title I (Federal ) grants. The district also receives federal funding to supplement the program from D.D. Eisenhower Math and Science Funding and Title VI, Innovation Programs, Funding. Also, a summer program funded through these grants runs for approximately six (6) weeks. As is the case during the school year, the summer program concentrates on remediation skills in reading, writing and math. Also, advanced writing and science classes are offered.
