Welcome to the Burlington City Office of Early Childhood Website! • DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE The Early Childhood Education Program of Burlington City provides a high quality full day program for three and four year old students who reside in the district. All parents of 3 and 4 year old children, regardless of developmental milestones, are encouraged to take advantage of this outstanding program. Currently there are fifteen classrooms that service more than 200 students in a state approved program and curriculum that consistently receives high ratings. Research shows that children who attend preschool programs are more likely to be successful students and responsible citizens throughout their lives. The goal of our preschool program is to offer a broad spectrum of learning experiences that focuses on developing the "whole child". To accomplish this goal, we look at four major domains of growth and development; Social/Emotional, Physical, Cognitive, and Language. Preschool children with special needs are provided with services such as, speech and language, occupational therapy and physical therapy. Student diversity is celebrated and embraced through programs, special events, and support from the English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher. Other services include the Family Support and the Preschool Intervention Referral Team. Teachers and parents use these programs to work collaboratively in seeking solutions for students who may need additional support in the classroom. Please refer to the Early Childhood Staff Directory to contact personnel for guidance and assistance.
